SPRING TRAINING GAME RECAP: 3/9/17

MILWAUKEE BREWERS 8, San Diego Padres 2

Milwaukee improved their spring training record to 8-5 with an 8-2 win over the Padres in Peoria on Thursday. The Brewers jumped out to a first inning lead when first baseman Eric Thames singled up the middle to score Ivan De Jesus Jr. Milwaukee added to their lead in the fourth when Domingo Santana launched his third home run of the Cactus League season, a three-run shot, to give the Brewers a 4-0 lead. The Padres plated single runs in the third and the fourth but Milwaukee opened their lead back up with three in the sixth.  Lucas Erceg drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Thames and then Lewis Brinson followed with a single that knocked in Brett Phillips and Erceg to make it 7-2.  Michael Reed chipped in his first home run of the spring, a bomb to left field in the seventh, to round out the scoring, extending the final margin to 8-2.  Zach Davies started and worked 2.2 innings, allowing one run to get the win while Paolo Espino tossed the final three scoreless frames to earn the save.
