OVERVIEW: The 2017 Biloxi Shuckers team will once again be a fun one to follow with eight players ranked in our most recent top 40 prospect list on the initial roster, including Luis Ortiz (#5), Jorge Lopez (#8), Mauricio Dubon (#11), Jacob Nottingham (#16), Taylor Williams (#22), Michael Reed (#28), Clint Coulter (#29) and Victor Roache (#39).

PITCHERS: The Shuckers pitching staff will be led by a pair of intriguing young arms in Ortiz and Lopez, who both spent part of last season in Biloxi as well. They’ll be joined by Williams, who missed the last two season after having Tommy John surgery, but was still added to Milwaukee’s 40-man roster in the offseason, along with some other interesting arms such as Aaron Wilkerson, Angel Ventura, Jon Perrin and Bubba Derby.

CATCHERS: Jacob Nottingham, the top catching prospect in the Brewers organization, returns for his second season with the Shuckers and he will be joined by Dustin Houle, who is coming off a strong spring in big league camp, in addition to 24-year-old Dominican backstop Natanael Mejia, who jumps over High-A Carolina after spending last season in the Midwest League with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

INFIELDERS: The biggest name on the Shuckers infield is Mauricio Dubon, whom the Brewers acquired this past winter in a trade with the Boston Red Sox. The versatile middle infielder is a highly thought of prospect and is expected to get the bulk of the starts at shortstop for Biloxi. Joining him on the infield will be Art Charles, a left-handed slugger at first base, as well as a handful of utility men with the ability to play multiple positions, including Angel Ortega, Blake Allemand, George Iskenderian, Javier Betancourt and Dustin DeMuth.

OUTFIELDERS: Biloxi’s outfield should once again be a strength, with plenty of familiar faces in the mix. Reed, Coulter and Roache all spent time with the Shuckers a season ago, as did speedster Johnny Davis. The quartet could also be joined by Tyrone Taylor who will likely return to Biloxi again once he is fully healthy.

COACHING STAFF: Mike Guerrero is back for his second season as manager in Biloxi and his fourth season overall as manager at the Double-A level for the Brewers. Chris Hook will once again return as the Shuckers pitching coach with Sandy Guerrero coming back as well, along with Chuckie Caufield, who spent the past three seasons coaching at Low-A Wisconsin.
