WHAT TO WATCH FOR
– Biloxi will look to win their third in a row from Montgomery after earning victories on Thursday and Friday night. They’ll send Taylor Williams to the mound as he continued to make his way back from Tommy John surgery. After being limited to shorter stints during spring training, it will be interesting to see how long the Brewers let Williams go on Saturday before turning things over to Jon Perrin.
– After opening with two games on the road, the Timber Rattlers come home to Fox Cities Stadium on Saturday for their home opener, a 4:05 start against Quad Cities. The Rattlers and River Bandits split the first two games in Quad Cities with the Bandits shutting out Wisconsin on Thursday night and the T-Rats returning the favor on Friday.
– Brandon Woodruff, the Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Year a season ago, is slated to make his 2017 debut for the Sky Sox on Saturday evening. Several young pitchers have had problems adjusting to the environments in Colorado Springs, but Woodruff has more of a power arsenal and hopes are that the altitude won’t cause him as much trouble.
THURSDAY’S PLAYER OF THE DAY
Luis Aviles (Carolina Mudcats)
It’s hard to have a better Opening Day than the one that Aviles had for the Mudcats on Friday night. In six trips to the plate, he reached base five times, collecting a walk, two singles, a double and his first home run of the season. He wound up driving in four runs and scoring three in his Carolina League debut, and if that wasn’t enough, he also managed to swipe three bases in three attempts.
