SUNDAY’S GAMES

Chicago Cubs 7, MILWAUKEE BREWERS 4

The Cubs scored four runs in the first inning off of starter Zach Davies as they took the series from the Brewers with a 7-4 win on Sunday afternoon. Davies lasted five innings, allowing five runs, and was tagged with the loss. Ryan Braun provided the bulk of the offense for Milwaukee, hitting his second home run of the season, a three-run shot. Eric Thames doubled and walked while Domingo Santana reached base twice, collecting a single and a base on balls, with Jett Bandy notching the only other hit for the Brewers.

Omaha Storm Chasers 8 COLORADO SPRINGS SKY SOX 3

The Sky Sox suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Omaha by a final score of 8-3. Hiram Burgos got the start for Colorado Springs but got knocked around for four runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings and wound up taking the loss. Kyle Wren reached base three times out of the leadoff spot, collecting a single and a pair of walks. Garrett Cooper doubled for the lone extra-base hit for Colorado Springs while Nate Orf, Tyler Heineman and Gabriel Noriega each added singles.

BILOXI SHUCKERS 1, Montgomery Biscuits 6

The Shuckers saw their undefeated start to the season come to an end as well, as they fell to Montgomery 6-1. Luis Ortiz made his first start of 2016 and took the loss after giving up five runs over four innings of work. Bubba Derby came on in relief of Ortiz and worked three scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and striking out two. Angel Ortega led the Biloxi offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run. Dustin DeMuth singled and drew a walk in four trips to the plate while Victor Roache, Johnny Davis, George Iskenderian and Jacob Nottingham each added a single.

CAROLINA MUDCATS 8, Frederick Keys 0

Three Carolina pitchers combined to shutout Frederick as the Mudcats rolled to an 8-0 victory. Cody Ponce got the starting nod and was dominant over seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out five to earn the win while Quinten Torres-Costa and Nate Griep each added a scoreless frame of relief. Isan Diaz reached base four times, going 3-for-4 with a walk and Jake Gatewood was also on base four times, collecting two hits to go along with two walks. Luis Aviles and Troy Stokes each had two hits as well and Trent Clark smacked his first home run of the season.

Quad Cities River Bandits 17 WISCONSIN TIMBER RATTLERS 11

The Rattlers rallied from eight runs down to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, only to give up seven runs in the top of the eighth and fall to the River Bandits 17-11 in a wild game at Fox Cities Stadium. Cameron Roegner started and went 3.1 innings, allowing seven runs. Braden Webb was charged with six runs in his 2.1 innings of work, though only two were earned, and he suffered the loss. Tucker Neuhaus had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two home runs. Monte Harrison and Demi Orimoloye each homered and singled and Ryan Aguilar added two hits as well.
