MILWAUKEE BREWERS 5, Cincinnati Reds 1

The Brewers won their third straight on Thursday night, knocking off the Reds by a score of 5-1.  Jimmy Nelson got the start and earned the win, going seven innings and giving up just one run on five hits.  Carlos Torres and Jared Hughes followed Nelson on the mound with an inning of scoreless relief for each.  First baseman Eric Thames led Milwaukee’s offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run while left fielder Ryan Braun added his third home run of the season.  Shortstop Orlando Arcia collected three hits in four at-bats while right fielder Domingo Santana chipped in a single and a double.

COLORADO SPRINGS SKY SOX 8, Memphis Redbirds 2

Lewis Brinson returned to the lineup for Colorado Springs and belted a home run to lead off the game, giving the Sky Sox a lead they would never surrender.  Paolo Espino got the starting nod and worked six innings, allowing two runs, to earn the victory.  Garrett Cooper turned in a big night at the plate, finished the game 4-for-5 with a double and a home run while driving in four runs.  Kyle Wren and Nick Noonan each contributed a double and Ryan Cordell singled, walked and stole a base.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 4, BILOXI SHUCKERS 1

Biloxi’s offense sputtered once again as they scored just one run in a 4-1 loss to Pensacola.  Jorge Lopez started and was charged with the loss after going six innings and giving up four runs.  Nick Ramirez provided the only run for the Shuckers with a pinch-hit home run in the sixth inning, then pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Dustin DeMuth picked up a pair of hits in four trips to the plate and Jacob Nottingham went 1-for-4 with a double.

Frederick Keys 5, CAROLINA MUDCATS 3

The Mudcats coughed up a 3-1 lead and ultimately wound up falling to Frederick by a score of 5-3.  Eric Hanhold made the start for Carolina and wound up going five plus innings, allowing three runs, two earned.  Kodi Medeiros worked the final three and innings and was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in the ninth.  Mitch Ghelfi again paced the offense, going 2-for-4 while Trent Clark added a double and Jake Gatewood reached base twice with a single and a walk in four plate appearances.


Wisconsin dropped the opening game of their series in Cedar Rapids as they were edged by the Kernels 2-1.  Jordan Desguin got the start and took the loss, going five innings and giving up four runs.  Trey Supak followed and turned in another impressive outing, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings.  Mario Feliciano reached base three times with a single, double and a walk while Monte Harrison and Trever Morrison each added two hits and Joantgel Segovia finished 1-for-4.
