PHILLIPS BACK TO TRIPLE-A AS SWARZAK JOINS CREW

Lewis Brinson‘s recall to the big leagues on Wednesday meant bad news for Brett Phillips on Thursday as he was optioned back to Triple-A Colorado Springs prior to the team’s series finale in Washington.

Phillips roster spot became a requirement when relief pitcher Anthony Swarzak, acquired in a trade with the White Sox, joined the Brewers bullpen.  With Sweet Lew up, the Brewers opted to go back to a four-man bench, after carrying five for last night’s game.

In 15 games with the Brewers this season, the 23-year-old Phillips was batting .229/.289/.429 with a pair of home runs.  He’ll return to Triple-A Colorado Springs for the time being, but with so many moving parts in Milwaukee right now, he could re-join the big club before too long.
