We’re back from hiatus with another edition of the Farm Progress Report, our bi-weekly look at some of the players who have been heating up down on the farm.
Mauricio Dubon (Colorado Springs Sky Sox) – Dubon has found Colorado Springs to his liking after being promoted last month, hitting .382 with three home runs over the past two weeks. He added six doubles and three stolen bases while knocking in 12 runs and also scoring 12.
Joaquin De La Cruz (AZL Brewers) – The 21-year-old De La Cruz received a promotion from the Dominican Summer League in June, but picked up right where he left off. In his last two starts, he has allowed one earned run of just three hits while striking out 14 over nine innings of work.
Nic Pierre (Helena Brewers) – Pierre has been on fire at Helena. racking up multi-hit games on a regular basis. He has recorded 16 hits over his last 36 at-bats, with an OPS of 1.098 during that span of games.
Luis Ortiz (Biloxi Shuckers) – Ortiz has been one of the names popping up in trade rumors recently, but if he keeps pitching like he has been, the Brewers might want to hang on to him. Ortiz struck out six batters in six shutout innings on July 19th, then followed that up with seven punch-outs over seven innings of one-run ball in his next outing.
Andrew Barbosa (Colorado Springs Sky Sox) – With the Brewers in need of bullpen help at the big league level, the left-handed Barbosa presents an intriguing option. At six-foot-eight, he’s a presence on the mound and he has allowed just one earned run over his last seven outings.
Johnny Davis (Biloxi Shuckers) – Largely thought of as a one-trick pony prior to this season, Davis has shown impressive development at AA Biloxi. Over the past two weeks, the 27-year-old speedster is batting .347 with a pair of home runs.
Zack Brown (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) – Brown appears to have put his early-season struggles behind him and looks to be turning into the ace of the Timber Rattlers staff in the second half. Over his last three starts, Brown has logged 18.2 innings, allowing just three runs while striking out 19.
Gabriel Garcia (Helena Brewers) – A three-hit performance for Garcia on Wednesday night has boosted his average back up over .300 on the season and over the past two weeks, the big slugger is batting .395 with two home runs.
Aaron Wilkerson (Biloxi Shuckers) – The Southern League’s Pitcher of the Week last week, Wilkerson has done basically everything he can at the AA level. In his last outing, on Sunday, he tossed a complete game shutout, striking out seven while surrendering just two hits.
