Minor League Baseball announced their Player of the Week awards on Monday and Carolina Mudcats third baseman Lucas Erceg was honored as the Carolina League’s Player of the Week for the week of July 24th-30th.

Erceg, Milwaukee’s second round pick last season out of Menlo College, hit safely in six of seven games during that span, going 11-for-23 for the Mudcats. He homered in three straight games from July 26th-29th, including a 3-for-5 performance against Myrtle Beach, in which he drove in five runs.

After getting off to a slow start to the season, hitting .220 in April and .213 in May, Erceg turned things around in recent months, catching fire in June and belting five homers in the month of July.

With his recent hot streak, Erceg pushed his season line to .246/.287/.404 with an OPS of .690. 37 of his 97 hits have gone for extra bases, including 24 doubles and 12 home runs.

Erceg and the Mudcats are back in action on Monday evening, when they return home to begin a three-game series with the Down East Wood Ducks.
