Profile: After an impressive showing at MLB’s International Prospect Showcase in 2016, Milwaukee signed the Dominican Abreu to a reported bonus of $800,000, making him one of the Brewers biggest signings from the 2016 International class. MLB Pipeline ranked Abreu as their 29th best prospect last July 2nd, noting his penchant for putting the ball in play and ability to drive the ball into the gaps. With good wheels both in the field and on the bases, Abreu profiles presently as a center fielder, but has a better than average arm that should serve him well if the Brewers ever need to move him to a corner outfield spot. An aggressive hitter who attacks at the plate but has also shown a willingness to take a walk, Abreu can generate occasional power, but tends to get a bit pull happy and gets himself into trouble when he tries to yank balls out of the ballpark.

2017:  The Brewers assigned Abreu to their affiliate in the Dominican Summer League and he put together a solid first season there, earning a spot on the DSL All-Star team.  In 59 games, he hit .256 with ten doubles, two triples and two home runs, earning a promotion stateside late in the year.  He finished out his first season of pro ball in the Arizona League, collecting six hits in 19 AZL at-bats over a six game span.
