Profile: Signed by the Brewers out of the Dominican Republic in February of 2016, Acosta made his pro debut Milwaukee’s affiliate in the Dominican Summer League in 2016.  He saw action in 11 games out of the bullpen, but struggled with his command and saw his opportunities limited.  He returned to the DSL again in 2017, pitching for Milwaukee’s co-op team which they shared with the Indians.  Acosta got more chances as he proved to be a reliable late-inning man.  The biggest challenge for Acosta to this point in his young career has been his ability to harness his command and throw pitches for strikes.  He did show improvements in 2017, but still allowed way too many free passes, something he’ll need to correct in order to advance.

2016: Signed by the Brewers in February, Acosta debuted in June and wound up pitching in 11 contests, all in relief for Milwaukee’s Dominican Summer League club.  The right-hander finished the season with an ERA of 8.44, issuing a whopping 23 walks in just 10.2 innings of work, leading to a WHIP of 3.00.

2017:  Acosta returned to the DSL in 2017, this time pitching for the Brewers/Indians co-op team.  He saw an expanded role at the back end of the bullpen, pitching in 22 games and going 5-2 with a 4.68 earned run average.  Serving as one of the team’s closers, Acosta converted on five of seven save chances and saw a decrease in both his WHIP and his BB/9.
