How acquired: Draft (36th Round, 2016)

Profile: Drafted by Milwaukee in the 36th round of the 2016 Draft out of Liberty University, where he was named Freshman of the Year in 2014, Bean opted to forego his senior season at Liberty and signed with the Brewers following the draft.  He was sent to Maryvale in the AZL to start his pro career, but the Brewers took it easy with the big right-hander, giving him just two one inning stints.  He opened 2017 in extended spring training, then joined Helena once their season got underway in June and spent the remainder of 2017 there, working as the team’s closer.  An intimidating presence on the mound, Bean’s fastball sits in the low 90’s currently and his big frame makes it appear even quicker to hitters.  While averaging a strikeout per inning through his first two seasons, Bean has had his struggles with walks and will need to correct that as he advances up the ladder.

2016: After logging 16 appearances during his junior season at Liberty, the Brewers opted to take things easy with Bean after signing him.  They sent him to Maryvale to work with their AZL team there, but he saw action in only two games, allowing one hit in two innings of work.

2017:  The Brewers moved Bean up to Helena of the Pioneer League in 2017 and gave him a chance to serve as the team’s closer.  He thrived in that role, holding opposing hitters to a .218 batting average in 20 relief appearances and earning a spot on the Pioneer League All-Star team.  Bean successfully converted five of six save chances and finished the year with a record of 1-1 with to go along with a 4.80 earned run average.
