BETTINGER, ALEC

Position: Pitcher

DOB: July 13, 1995

Height: 6’2″ / Weight: 185

Bats: Right / Throws: Right

40-man roster: No

How acquired: Drafted (10th round, 2017)

Profile:  Selected by Milwaukee in the 10th round of the 2017 Draft out of the University of Virginia, Bettinger was a valuable reliever for the Cavaliers, going 8-0 with a 2.43 ERA during his senior season with the Cavaliers.  He signed with the Brewers for a modest $10,000 and began his pro career with Helena, where he worked as both a starter and a reliever.   With a fastball that sits in the 90-92 mph range, Bettinger throws strikes and generally keeps the ball in the park.  Though he doesn’t have a ton of starting experience, he has the frame to work with and will probably continue to bounce back and forth as the Brewers tedn to operate with tandems at the lower levels.

2017:  The Brewers signed Bettinger following the draft and assigned him to Helena, choosing to have the more experienced college player skip over the Arizona League.  He appeared in 15 games for Helena, starting nine of them, and 3-3 with a 4.97 earned run average, striking out 39 batters in 50.2 innings of work.
