40-man roster: No

How acquired: Free Agent (June 11, 2015)

Profile: Signed by the Brewers as a non-drafted free agent following his senior season at Baylor, Kuntz split time between Helena and the AZL in 2015, then jumped over Low-A Wisconsin and spent the 2016 season with High-A Brevard County.  He returned to High-A for the 2017 season, pitching for Milwaukee’s new affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats, appearing in 36 games.  A lefty specialist who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013, Kuntz rebounded to become a solid bullpen prospect, saving five games in 2016.  His strikeout numbers are solid and he doesn’t walk many batters but he did surprisingly struggle against left-handed hitters in 2017, though with such a small sample size, those numbers could be an aberration.

2015:  Kuntz went undrafted out of college, but the Brewers took a chance on the left-handed hurler, signing him to a free agent deal and assigning him to the rookie Arizona League.  He was dominant in nine outings there, going 2-0 with an 0.65 earned run average before earning a promotion to Helena.  He finished out the 2015 season with Helena and continued to enjoy success in six relief outings there, allowing just two runs in 13.1 innings.

2016:  The Brewers rewarded Kuntz for his impressive debut with an aggressive placement with High-A Brevard County in 2016, opting to have him skip over Class-A Wisconsin.  He handled the jump fairly well, making 31 relief appearances with the Manatees and posting an ERA of 3.43.  Kuntz also got to see some time as the closer at Brevard and successfully converted on five of six save chances while striking out 40 batters in 42 innings of work.

2017:  Milwaukee had Kuntz return to Advanced-A for a second season in 2017, sending him to join the Carolina Mudcats.  He saw action in 36 games while putting up similar numbers to the year before.  In 60 innings of work, he recorded 58 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .236 average.
