Profile: A July 2nd signing by the Brewers in 2013 out of the Dominican Republic, Mallen made his debut with Milwaukee’s Dominican Summer League squad in 2014. He returned to the DSL in 2015 and spent most of the season there before a late promotion to Helena. Mallen opened up 2016 in extended spring training before heading back to Helena where he appeared in 50 games. Drafted as a shortstop, Mallen split time between shortstop and second base during his first two seasons before making the full-time move to second in 2016. A good contact hitter who generates bat speed and squares up pitches well, Mallen has the potential to grow into some power as he develops, which should serve him well as he appears relegated to the keystone.

2014: After signing with Milwaukee the prvious July, Mallen made his debut in the DSL in 2014 as one of the youngest players in the league. In 63 games there, Mallen hit .235/.326/.292 with 11 doubles and a home run while scoring 38 runs.

2015: The Brewers opted to return Mallen to the Dominica Summer League in 2015 and he fared better at the plate, hitting .268/.351/.421, collecting 20 doubles, a pair of triples and four home runs. That impressed Milwaukee enough that they brought him stateside to join Helena for their final three games of the season, where he collected five hits in ten at-bats.

2016: Entering 2016 at just 18 years of age, Mallen opened up the year in extended spring training before heading back to Helena when their season opened up in June. He saw action in 50 games there, batting .279/.317/.391 with three home runs.
