Chad McClanahan (72)

Position: Third Base, First Base

DOB: December 22, 1997

Height: 6’5″ / Weight: 200

Bats: Left / Throws: Right

40-man roster: No

How acquired: Drafted (11th round, 2016)

Profile: When McClanahan fell to the 11th round of the 2016 draft, many thought he would head to college at Arizona State, but the Brewers were able to sway him away from the Sun Devils with a bonus of $1.2 million. Following his signing, McClanahan joined Milwaukee’s affiliate in the AZL where he saw action in 35 games. McClanahan’s best tool is his power, which he generates easily courtesy of his 6’5″ frame and his plus bat speed. The big concern for the left-handed hitting McClanahan is the ability to make contact consistently enough to get to that power. There are also questions about his ability to handle third base, where his arm is fringy and his size could eventually force him to slide over to first.

2016: After signing with the Brewers following the draft, McClanahan was sent to Maryvale to join the Brewers rookie Arizona League affiliate. He saw action in 35 games, batting .208/.277/.333 with seven doubles, a triple and three home runs. He saw time at both first and third base, with the majority of his game action coming at the hot corner.
