Profile: Selected by the Brewers in the 12th round in 2015 following his junior season at the University of Tennessee, Owenby signed with Milwaukee for $100,000 and split time between Maryvale and Helena in his first season in the Brewers’ system.  He moved up to Wisconsin in 2016, but injury held him back in 2017 as he got a late start to his season, before seeing time at both Maryvale and Wisconsin.  With a low-90’s fastball, a plus curve and a developing changeup, Owenby struggled with his command during his collegiate days, but appears to have ironed some of that out in the pros.  He’s shown an ability to put away hitters via the strikeout, limiting damage by keeping hitters off balance with his variety of offerings.

2015:  After signing with the Brewers following the draft, Owenby was assigned to the Arizona League, but after just two outings there he earned a promotion to Helena.  In 11 outings there, seven of which came as a starter, he went 1-3 with a 7.67 earned run average.

2016:  Owenby got his first taste of full-season ball in 2016, as he moved up to Class-A Wisconsin.  He appeared in 17 games for the Timber Rattlers, starting seven of them, and went 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA, striking out nearly a batter per inning, but suffered an injury in July that shut him down for the remainder of the season.

2017:  The injury that ended Owenby’s 2016 season, kept him out for a portion of 2017 as well.  He finally returned to the field in late-June, making three starts for the AZL Brewers before returning to Wisconsin.  He worked in 11 games for the Timber Rattlers, starting six of them, and went 0-1 with a 3.35 ERA, holding opposing hitters to a .196 average while striking out 48 batters in 37.2 innings of work.
