ROJAS, ROBIE

Position: Catcher

DOB: December 3, 1994

Height: 5’7″ / Weight: 185

Bats: Right / Throws: Right

40-man roster: No

How acquired: Drafted (38th round, 2017)

Profile: Selected by the Brewers in the 38th round in 2017, Rojas began his college career at Oklahoma State, then moved on to Blinn College before spending his final two seasons at Sam Houston State.  He signed with the Brewers following the draft and was sent to Maryvale, where he played for Milwaukee’s affiliate in the Arizona League.  A fundamentally sound backstop, Rojas is a good blocker with a good arm and a quick release, helping to keep opposing runners in check.  At the plate he is more of a line drive contact hitter, but he did hit seven home runs as a senior, showing an ability to drive the ball.

2017:  The Brewers assigned Rojas to Maryvale after agreeing to terms with him, and he appeared in 30 games for their affiliate in the AZL.  He hit .290 with a .422 on base percentage and drew 19 walks while striking out just 16 times.  Only four of his 27 hits went for extra-bases and he drove in ten runs while scoring 16.
