How acquired: Drafted (34th round, 2016)

Profile:  Drafted by Milwaukee in the 34th round following his senior season at Georgetown in 2016, Smith signed with the Brewers and saw time at three different levels in his first pro season.  After opening with the AZL Brewers, he moved up to Helena in July, then Wisconsin in August.  After making 14 total appearances in his first season, Smith was placed on the 60-day disabled list in June of 2017 and wound up missing the remainder of the year.

2016:  Upon signing with the Brewers at the conclusion of his career with the Hoyas, Smith was sent to the rookie Arizona League to make his pro debut.  He made four relief appearances there, going 1-0 with a 0.87 earned run average, and was soon promoted to Helena.  He saw action in five games there, starting three, and posted an ERA of 4.50 before moving up again, this time to Class-A Wisconsin.  He finished out the year with the Timber Rattlers, and went 0-2 with a 5.74 ERA over five games there.

2017:  Smith opened up his second season in Milwaukee’s system in extended spring training and was placed on the 60-day disabled list in June with an undisclosed injury that wound up costing him all of the 2017 campaign.
