Profile: Signed by the Brewers out of Venezuela in 2014, Vasquez was impressive with the bat in limited playing time during his pro debut that same season, but suffered a broken hamate bone a year later that cost him all of the year.  He returned to play in 2016, splitting time between Maryvale and Helena and briefly saw action with Helena again in 2017.  A big target behind the plate, Vasquez has work to do defensively, which could explain his lack of game action to this point in his career.  He’s struggled offensively as well, striking out in nearly half of his career at-bats.

Vasquez went to work immediately after signing with the Brewers, joining their affiliate in the Dominican Summer League and hit .286 with an on base percentage of .500 in eight DSL games.  Opposing teams were not afraid to run on him, swiping 17 bases in 23 attempts in just those eight games.

After suffering a broken hamate bone in his left hand, Vasquez missed the entire 2015 season costing him a year of development time with the bat and the glove.

Healthy once again, Vasquez came stateside and split time between Maryvale and Helena, but he appeared in just 13 games, batting a combined .121 with one home run while striking out 16 times in 33 at-bats.

Vasquez spent a good chunk of 2017 as the third catcher at Class-A Wisconsin, but did not get into any games as he was relegating to the team’s disabled list.  He joined Helena for a stint in late-June/early-July, but appeared in just four games, going 1-for-5 with a double.
