Profile:  Signed by the Brewers out of Venezuela in early 2017, Velasquez was assigned to Milwaukee’s co-op affiliate in the Dominican Summer League and made his professional debut there.  Like many young Latin American hurlers, Velasquez struggles to command his pitches and walks were a huge problem for him in his first pro season, but when he does throw strikes, opposing hitters have a tough time squaring him up.

2017:  The Brewers opted to have Velasquez begin his career at the age of 17 with their co-op team which they shared with the Indians.  He appeared in 12 games, starting one, and held opposing hitters to a .204 average while striking out nearly a batter per inning.  Walks were a major concern however, as he issued 29 free passes in just 17.1 innings of work.
